Why Nature Observation? Nature observation opens our senses to the beauty and diversity of life around us. It fosters appreciation for our environment and helps us dwell in the present moment, which is a core aspect of mindfulness.
Instructions for Nature Observation.
- Find a cozy spot where you can observe nature.
- Sitting Position: Settle into a comfortable sitting posture. Make sure your back is straight and your shoulders are relaxed.
- Position Hands: Gently place your hands on your thighs or in your lap.
- Close Eyes: Gently close your eyes.
- Sounds of Nature: Focus your attention on the sounds of nature. Listen to the rustling of water, the singing of birds, and the whisper of leaves in the wind. (30 to 60 seconds)
- Open Eyes: Slowly open your eyes.
- Observe Nature: Look at the plants, trees, and animals around you. Consciously take in every detail. (45 to 60 seconds)
- Colors and Shapes: Observe the colors, shapes, and movements with a curious gaze. (30 to 60 seconds)
- Silence and Presence: Take a moment to dwell in silence and enjoy the experience of observing nature. Be fully present in the here and now. (30 to 60 seconds)
Conclude the exercise by gradually grounding yourself in the present moment and taking a deep breath before moving on to the next station.
